Melinda Su was a Farber Fellow based at REDF, providing business assistance across REDF’s portfolio of social enterprises. Prior to joining REDF, Melinda was Director of Raising A Reader, an early literacy initiative started by Peninsula Community Foundation, which she grew into a national social enterprise. Her background also includes toy product management, management consulting, and investment evaluation experience. Melinda holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a BS in Economics from MIT.

Caroline Pappajohn

Caroline Pappajohn
New Door Ventures (then known as Golden Gate Community, Inc.)


Caroline Pappajohn was a Farber Fellow at New Door Ventures (then known as Golden Gate Community, Inc.), where she worked on growing their three social enterprises. Caroline spent the previous ten years in high-tech, entrepreneurial environments leading marketing and product management teams. She was also co-founder and COO of GearGoddess, an Internet consumer guide on sports gear for women, and ran a marketing consulting firm. Caroline began her career in the public sector as the legislative assistant to Senator Arlen Specter, focusing on business issues. Caroline received her BA and MBA from Stanford University. Her passion for nonprofits stems from 18 years of volunteering in the areas of youth, community service, and the environment, including as a current board member of Community Impact. Caroline is currently the Enterprise Director at New Door Ventures (then known as Golden Gate Community, Inc.).

Anne-Marie Burgoyne

As a Farber Fellow at Community Gatepath, Anne Marie Burgoyne focused on new initiatives in the Children's Services area. Previously, Anne Marie was the Vice President of Service at Digital Impact, an online marketing company, where she grew and led a team of over 100 service providers. Her previous 10 years of work experience include investment banking and managing marketing and operational teams in entrepreneurial settings. Anne Marie received a BA in English from the University of Pennsylvania, a BS in Marketing from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School and an MBA from Stanford University, where she received a Public Management certificate and was the winner of the Arbuckle Award. Her volunteer interests focus on creating change through the empowerment of children and women. Currently, Anne Marie is the Portfolio Director of the Draper Richards Foundation.

Kristen Ace Burns

Kristen Ace Burns was an Enterprise Development Farber Fellow at REDF. She provided business assistance across REDF’s portfolio of social enterprises and also managed the Farber Interns Program. Prior to her Fellowship, Kristen was an Associate with Mercer Management Consulting in San Francisco. She also served as Program Manager for a private family foundation in Washington, DC. She holds an AB in History with a Certificate in American Studies from Princeton University, and an MBA and Certificate in Nonprofit Management from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Kristen led REDF as its President from 2003 - 2006. She currently works at the Grable Foundation as a Program Officer leading Grable’s work on early childhood issues.

Community Vocational Enterprises, Inc. (CVE, Inc.)


Community Vocational Enterprises, Inc. (CVE, Inc.) Karen Goore was a Farber Fellow at CVE, Inc., where she worked closely with several of CVE’s social enterprises. Before joining CVE, Karen was an Associate Marketing Manager at The Clorox Company. Her background also includes market research, management consulting, and retail experience. Karen received a BA in History from Yale University and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. Karen was Co-Director of Business Enterprises at CVE from 2001 - 2005. Currently, Karen is working as an independent consultant.

Brian AnderluhBrian Anderluh

Juma Ventures


Brian Anderluh and Lee Zimmerman were Farber Fellows who worked jointly as Entrepreneurs in Residence at Juma Ventures to help launch Juma's Social Business Incubator. Prior to his Fellowship, Brian managed the business development group at Sparks.com, a venture-backed Internet retailer of gifts and greeting cards. Previously, Brian co-founded Ucopia, the first online wedding gift registry service, which he eventually sold to WeddingNetwork.com. Before venturing into the Internet domain, Brian worked as a management consultant with Booz-Allen & Hamilton in Dallas and San Francisco. Brian holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar, and a BS in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University. Brian continues to work with Lee Zimmerman; both are co-founders and owners of Evergreen Lodge.

 

Julia Baker Jones
REDF


Julia Baker Jones was an Enterprise Development Farber Fellow at REDF. Prior to joining REDF, she was a management consultant for Mercer Management Consulting, a firm specializing in helping leading enterprises achieve sustained shareholder growth through the development of customer-focused business designs. Previously, Julia worked for the Minnesota Urban Coalition where she implemented a program serving at-risk youth. Throughout this time, Julia has volunteered with many nonprofits related to youth and entrepreneurship in Chicago, Minnesota, Washington DC and the Bay Area. Julia has significant experience providing consulting to "micro-enterprises" and nonprofit run job creation businesses. She recently co-authored a business case on the planning and implementation of social purpose businesses. Julia received her BA degree in African-American Studies with a disciplinary focus in education from Carleton College in 1991. She also holds an MBA and a Certificate of Public Management in Social Entrepreneurship from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where she graduated in the top ten percent of her class.

 

Denise Yamamoto

Denise Yamamoto was a Farber Fellow at CVE, Inc., where she was involved in a number of projects related to CVE's business enterprises. Denise holds an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to business school, she worked for six years in San Francisco for Barclays Global Investors, most recently as the international equity portfolio manager in the firm's Alpha Strategies Group. In the summer of 1999, after completing a project with Grameen Fund, Bangladesh's first venture capital fund, Denise worked for the National Park Service and the National Parks and Conservation Association writing a business plan for Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. Denise was one of the organizers of the first Haas Social Venture Business Plan Competition, a national competition for mission-driven business ventures that simultaneously promote social responsibility and economic profitability. She continues to work at CVE, Inc. as Co-Director of Business Enterprises.

 

Lee Zimmerman

Lee Zimmerman and Brian Anderluh were Farber Fellows who worked jointly as Entrepreneurs in Residence at Juma Ventures to help launch Juma's Social Business Incubator. Prior to his Fellowship, Lee served as Vice President of Marketing and Director of Operational Development at World Wrapps Restaurants, where he supported growth of the venture-backed company from 1 to 25 units. In 1994, Lee co-founded Start Up, a micro-enterprise program serving entrepreneurs in East Palo Alto; he currently serves as board chair for the organization. In 1995, Lee assisted Juma Ventures in launching their Ben & Jerry's ice cream concession employing at-risk youth in Candlestick Park. Lee has also worked in development lending with Shorebank Corporation in Chicago. He holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar, and a B.S. in Cybernetics from UCLA. Lee continues to work with Brian Anderluh; both are co-founders and owners of Evergreen Lodge.

Suzi Chun and George Roberts

As a Farber Fellow at REDF, Suzi Chun was responsible for creating and applying the SROI models for the REDF Portfolio and producing the final SROI reports. Before joining REDF, Suzi was a Public Finance analyst with J.P. Morgan in New York and San Francisco, where her clients included local and state governments and agencies and large nonprofit organizations. She received a BS from Columbia University School of Engineering in Operations Research with a minor in Economics and a concentration in Industrial Engineering.

 

Jeff Hannan
Juma Ventures


Jeff Hannan, MBA '98 UCLA Anderson School of Management, was a Farber Fellow at Juma Ventures, where he worked on new enterprise development. During his Fellowship, Jeff worked with the Juma management team to assess and evaluate several business opportunities and laid the groundwork for their Social Enterprise Incubator. Previous to becoming a Farber Fellow, Jeff was an Investment Banking Associate with Wedbush Morgan Securities.

Kristin Majeska

Kristin Majeska
New Door Ventures (then known as Golden Gate Community, Inc.)


REDF's first Farber Fellow, Kristin Majeska, MBA '94, Stanford Graduate School of Business, worked for a year with Golden Gate Community Inc.'s San Francisco City Stores. During her Fellowship, Kristin improved the operations of and facilitated the growth of two retail stores employing youth in recovery from drug addiction and homelessness. Previous to becoming a Farber Fellow, Kristin was a Principal at Mercer Management Consulting. Kristin is currently the Founder and President of Common Good Ventures, investing in a portfolio of social enterprises in Maine.

 


Kim Starkey Jonker
Rubicon Programs


Kim Starkey Jonker, M.Sc.,'95 University of Oxford, M.Sc.'96, London School of Economics, was a Farber Fellow at Rubicon Programs. During her Fellowship, Kim implemented accounting systems recommendations, ensuring that Rubicon's enterprise financial systems would be adequate for planned growth. Previous to becoming a Farber Fellow, Kim was a Business Analyst at McKinsey & Company. Kim graduated from Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2001 and is now consulting independently to nonprofits.
