The Urban Institute released a report in July titled, "Supporting Work for Low-Income People with Significant Challenges." This report discusses the challenges of different populations with barriers to employment such as little or no income and disabilities and how supporting work services would be effective in decreasing dependency on public benefits. This report suggests four specific service strategies to aid these populations with such barriers. The four service programs are :

  • Service-focused employment preparation
  • Subsidized employment
  • Treatment-management programs
  • Incentives

This report is important because it provides great insight into the challenges faced by families with little or no income and how assistance is needed to advocate for federal recognition of supporting work strategies that will help this population move into and stay in the workforce.
